Details: Motivated by the recent launch of the Society for the Study of Measurement
(SSM), two founding members of SSM and the coordinators of the research group
Measurement Therapy, based at the Department of History and Philosophy of
Science (University of Cambridge), will host the first Cambridge Early Career
Workshop in the Philosophy of Measurement. We are inviting contributions by
researchers within three years of submitting their PhD dissertation, dealing with
any topic in the philosophy of measurement. Such topics include but are not
limited to:

  *   the epistemologies of measurement in the physical, earth, social, life, and
  *   human sciences
  *   philosophical issues in metrology
  *   formal measurement theory
  *   the metaphysics of quantitative and non-quantitative attributes
  *   the ethics and politics of measurement
  *   the history of philosophy of measurement

Each presenter will receive a ten-minute commentary from a senior scholar from Cambridge or around the world. Presentations will be 30 minutes, leaving time for 30 minutes of commentary and wider discussion. All presentations will be scheduled for the afternoon (UK time).

Abstract submission
Papers will be selected based on anonymised abstracts (max. 700 words) to submit to mo459 at cam.ac.uk<mailto:mo459 at cam.ac.uk> by 1 November 2022. Only one submission per person is allowed.
Acceptance to the workshop will be communicated during November 2022. Authors of accepted papers will then have until 1 March 2023 (hard deadline) to submit their papers (between 5000-7500 words, inclusive of references and notes), which will be shared with the assigned commentator.
