The British Society for the Philosophy of Science and the CPNSS-LSE are
pleased to invite you to the launch of the first volume in the BSPS Open
book series:

John D. Norton, The Material Theory of Induction, Available as an Open
Access PDF that is free to all, or for purchase as a print version.

All are welcome to join us for a lively presentation and debate about
this new work, with John D. Norton, Helen Beebee, Molly Kao, Wendy
Parker, and Richard Pettigrew, and chaired by Bryan W Roberts (LSE) and
David Teira (Sorbonne), BSPS Open Editors in Chief.

The Material Theory of Induction identifies the source of the enduring
problems with inductive inference in science in an assumption usually
taken at the outset: that inductive inference can be accommodated by a
single formal account with universal applicability. Instead, it argues
that there is no single, universally applicable formal account. Rather,
each domain has an inductive logic native to it. The content of that
logic and where it can be applied are determined by the facts prevailing
in that domain.
