FCT Individual Call for PhD Research Scholarships
Host Institution: Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CFCUL)

The Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CFCUL) (Lisbon, Portugal) welcomes expressions of interest by prospective candidates interested in applying for a PhD grant (up to 4 years) funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) under the Individual Call for PhD Research Scholarships.

FCT will accept applications between 1 and 31 March 2023 (17:00 Lisbon Time). All the information concerning the call is available here (English version should be available soon): https://www.fct.pt/en/concursos/concurso-bolsas-de-doutoramento-2023

Candidates will apply online directly to the FCT, but the application must be supported by a host institution and a supervisor working at a Portuguese university.

CFCUL is interested in hosting high quality doctoral students in a wide range of areas in Philosophy of Science.

Prospective candidates are invited to contact the Direction of CFCUL as soon as possible and no later than 17 March sending an e-mail in English or Portuguese to cdlisboa at fc.ul.pt, with the Subject: FCT BID 2022 + [your name], including:

- Short summary of the Research Plan
- Doctoral programme you wish to apply to
- Name of the supervisor you would like to work with
- Curriculum Vitae

Notification of the acceptance/rejection by CFCUL will be sent within 3 working days from the reception of the manifestation of interest.

Important note: During the application in the FCT website, candidates with a foreign academic degree will have to provide the Portuguese recognition of such degree and the conversion of the final grade(s) to the Portuguese grading scale. This can be done  by a  Portuguese  public  higher  education  institution (e.g., the University of Lisbon https://www.ulisboa.pt/en/info/foreign-qualifications-0),  or  by  the  Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES, www.dges.gov.pt/en/pagina/degree-and-diploma-recognition<http://www.dges.gov.pt/en/pagina/degree-and-diploma-recognition>). The process might be lengthy, therefore we recommend that it is started as soon as possible.

The Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CFCUL) is a R&D Unit of the University of Lisbon located in the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon. CFCUL is the only R&D Unit in Portugal fully devoted to Philosophy of Science and is currently organized in three Research Groups:

RG1 – PHILOSOPHY OF THE FORMAL SCIENCES, METHODOLOGY AND EPISTEMOLOGY
RG2 – PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCES
RG3 – PHILOSOPHY OF TECHNOLOGY, HUMAN SCIENCES, ART AND SOCIETY
